In Spring 2025, the CSU Chancellor鈥檚 Office launched an AI Strategy to centralize resources and support campus AI plans through an AI Commons. This includes enterprise access to AI tools, professional development, and workforce training. An advisory board with industry partners and campus stakeholders will guide innovation and ethics.

Our Action Plan focuses on (1) integrating AI into academic curriculum for job readiness, (2) training the campus community to use AI creatively for research and innovation, and (3) exploring AI鈥檚 potential for predictive analytics in student success.

ChatGPT Edu will be available to all faculty, and staff on by beginning of April, 2025 and to active students in July 2025. Alumni are not eligible at this time.

AI Across the CSU: Innovations and Insights

Join us for an exploration of good work with Generative Artificial Intelligence going on within the CSU system. This four-part 鈥渓unch and learn鈥� series will take place every other Wednesday, at noon, March 26 to May 7. It explores best practices for course design, campus engagement, and exploration from your peers. Each 45-minute webinar is a stand-alone session, but there will be common threads throughout. All material will be recorded and shared so that good ideas can be implemented on different campuses. We look forward to sharing the great work being done within the CSU.

Specifically, it's built upon GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) models, which have been trained on vast amounts of text from the internet to generate human-like text responses.

  ChatGPT Edu is a specialized version of OpenAI's ChatGPT tailored for educational institutions. It offers universities and colleges a secure and scalable platform to integrate advanced AI tools into their academic environments

  • Enhanced Language Capabilities: Utilizes OpenAI's GPT4o model, supporting over 50 languages with improved quality and speed.
  • Enterprise-Level Security: Provides robust data privacy and security measures, including Single Sign-On (SSO), domain verification, customizable data retention policies, and compliance with SOC 2 Type 2 standards.

  • Cal State Channel Islands ChatGPT Edu environment, and its encompassing data, will remain private to Cal State Channel Islands. 鈥���
  • Cal State Channel Islands conversations or鈥痙ata will not be shared with OpenAI or other universities, for training purposes or AI models. ChatGPT Edu has robust data privacy, security and administrative controls such as group permissions, etc.鈥�

• Should I Maintain My Own Paid ChatGPT Plan?

  ChatGPT Edu is designed for academic and professional tasks in higher education, so you may still want a paid personal plan for business, creative projects or other personal AI use cases. If you currently use ChatGPT for non-Cal State Channnel Islands purposes, we recommend that you create a new, personal paid plan using a personal email address. Additionally, GPT-4o access in ChatGPT Edu has usage limits, while paid plans may offer higher usage limits, premium features and other personal use cases.
