Camarillo, Calif., Aug. 10, 2012 鈥� CSU Channel Islands (CI) has been named a 鈥淕reat College to Work For鈥� by The Chronicle of Higher Education for a third consecutive year.
A survey released this week in The Chronicle鈥檚 fifth annual report on The Academic Workplace rates CI among the top 103 institutions nationwide for its work environment.聽 CI also earned a spot as one of only 42 institutions on the 2012 Honor Roll, which recognizes colleges and universities that score the highest across multiple categories that contribute to employee satisfaction.
The 2012 rankings are based on a survey of more than 46,000 employees at 294 colleges and universities.聽 Employees are asked to rate their institutions in areas such as such as job satisfaction; work/life balance; collaborative governance; confidence in senior leadership; professional/career development programs; compensation and benefits; supervisor/department chair relationship; facilities, workspace and security; and respect and appreciation.

The Chronicle is regarded as the nation鈥檚 most important source of news about colleges and universities.聽 Its annual Great Colleges to Work For survey is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country.聽

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff.聽 The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle worked with ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous 鈥淏est Places to Work鈥� programs, surveying hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide.
