Making RoomFeb. 11, 2025 鈥 What do we do with the stories we inherit? Associate Professor of Performing Arts, Theater and Performance Studies, Catherine S. Burriss, will explore this question through an original solo performance. The performance will be presented on Feb. 22 and March 2 at NAMBA Performing Art space in Ventura.

鈥淢aking Room鈥 explores what is left out of Harper Lee鈥檚 鈥淭o Kill a Mockingbird,鈥 a novel that has become integral to the story white America tells itself, while grappling with what is left out of the stories the performer鈥檚 (mostly) white family tells itself. While unpacking the stories she鈥檚 inherited and the ones she will hand down, she encounters joy, grapples with loss, and question the inequitable legacies of whiteness, patriarchy, and power, using embodied storytelling to identify them, complicate them, and hopefully, being to undo their damage.

This performance was conceived, written, and will be performed by Catherine Scott Burriss. It is directed by Laura Covault, with the set and props by Rosel Weedn.

Tickets are . Students may attend for free; all other tickets are $20 online or $25 at the door.
